The Vision of Hell at Fatima—Are We Ignoring the Warning?

The vision of hell at Fatima was one of the most terrifying moments in Marian apparitions—yet many Catholics today ignore Our Lady’s warning. In 1917, the Blessed Virgin Mary showed the three shepherd children a glimpse of eternal damnation, urging them (and us) to pray, fast, and make sacrifices to save souls from hell.

Welcome back to Lent Daily it is Tuesday today and uh I just thought there was something really funny that happened recently and I want Ken to share it you want me to share it or do you want me to share because it's at my expense well I think it just speaks of a truth that's why we're going to talk about Fatima by the way but before we get there we're at Mass Ash Wednesday Mass gentleman comes up who has been seeing our videos and uh he just comes up and says first thing I have to say Ken is that you need to get some sleep and I interrupted him and I said you know what this is just how I look now we have eight children this is how it is I get woken up in the middle of the night introducing to you of course Louis the newest edition of our family but anyways it was humorous and uh yes it's true tired we're tired that's why we look tired come as we are the look reflects reality but uh we're going to talk about Fatima today and Fatima and the vision of Fatima that our lady gave the children and Fatima the message has been something dear to us because we actually did a Fatima series of videos called Fatima consecration 3 four videos we did on this topic but we're going to narrow in on the vision today um something that people don't know about our lady appearing in Fatam they missed this that there's something that happens before she shows up on the scene right yes that's right so actually so the little children are um if if you're not familiar with the Fatima story there's uh two siblings and a cousin and they're out tending the sheep and one day an angel appears to them and it's the angel of peace and actually there's three apparitions from this angel that that uh appears to them in preparation for what is to come yeah and the first time uh the angel appears he teaches them this prayer in 1916 the angel of Peace appears to the children and teaches them this prayer my God I believe I adore I hope and I love you I ask your pardon for those who do not believe who do not adore do not hope and who do not love you so usually this prayer is meant to be said three times and actually the way that the angel asked the children to pray it is to be bowing down prostrate with their heads on the ground yeah so this morning every morning at 8:45 we pray with our children we did not postrate ground but we did say it three times um why why did the angel ask to pray this way why pray on behalf of others who do not hope do not adore and do not love why well perhaps because their soul is in danger of being lost why else would you pray for others their their soul is in danger and you see this theme throughout Fatima she comes to to welcome people to pray the rosary to pray to save souls and to make reparation for sin on June 17th 1917 our lady herself taught the children this prayer Oh my Jesus forgive us our sins save us from the fires of Hell lead All Souls to Heaven especially those in most need of thy mercy amen and right after our lady teaches them this prayer she shows them this terrifying vision of Hell which we're going to get to but first there's something else that's important for us to know here in August Mary says pray pray very much and make sacrifices for Sinners for many souls go to hell because there are none to sacrifice themselves and to pray for them so I do find something very disturbing about what our lady says in that she says many souls go to hell the word many there's been a lot of debate within the church about what is the percentage are many saved or few saved or most people damn do many people go to heaven you know the church hasn't officially spoken on a number right but we're permitted to believe in private Revelation and permitted to believe in this operation which is really the gold standard of apparitions within the Catholic church it's an approved Apparition right our lady is saying many but you have them within the church right now saying that few people are damned that we have a reasonable hope that all men are saved um want to acknowledge that it seems that that we are permitted to go to the that extreme within the church I I'm not a theologian but if I'm going to error on the side of caution I'm just going with our lady Our Ladies said many because there's none to pray for them and to sacrifice for them when we fall into this category of believing that basically hell is empty so many other things start to fall apart like our Zeal for evangelization the necessity of confessing in and the sacraments of reconciliation the necessity of the Eucharist to grow in relationship with Jesus the necessity to pray for the conversion of souls the necessity to do sacrifice reparation and fast we have lost these disciplines how often do you hear this encouragement to pray to sacrifice for Sinners because of the possibility that the Eternal Soul may be lost to the fires of hell yeah oh we we don't want to offend people well we our lady told this to Children there there's an example here there's a lesson for us you know our lady didn't come and say you know what everything is going pretty good right now just keep on doing everything as as it is there was a great warning here because of the possibility of people losing their souls to the fires of hell and so she's here to warn us about this now to the vision of Hell sister Lucia writes our lady continued sacrifice yourselves for Sinners and say many times especially whenever you make a sacrifice oh Jesus it is for love of you for the conversion of Sinners and in reparation for the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary as our lady spoke these words she opened her hands once more as she had done during the two previous months the Rays of light seemed to penetrate the Earth and we saw as it were a sea of fire plunged in this fire were demons and souls in human form like transparent burning embers all blackened and burnished bronze floating about in the conf floration now raised into the air by the Flames that issued from within themselves together with great clouds of smoke now falling back on every side like Sparks in a huge fire without weight or equilibrium Amid shrieks and groans of pain and despair which horrified us and made us tremble with fear it must have been this sight which caused me to cry out as people say they heard me the demons could be distinguished by their terrifying and repellent likeness to frightful and unknown animals black and transparent like burning coals terrified and as if to plead for sakur we looked up at our lady who said to us so kindly and so sadly you have seen hell where the souls of poor Sinners go to save them God wishes to establish in the world Devotion to my Immaculate Heart if what I say to you is done many Souls will be saved and there will be peace so it is a terrifying Vision here as every Vision that we've had of hell is terrifying but we do have a a string of Hope Mary saying if Devotion to my Immaculate Heart is established um you can save many Souls notice the many again we have many souls go to hell but we can save many Souls if we we respond to our lady through Devotion to our Immaculate Heart through our prayers through our Rosary um all this talk on hell can kind of get depressing for dis hell is the ultimate despair but it should move us once again to pray we're in a time of land where traditionally we do sacrifices and penances we can offer these for reparation for our own sin and that of the whole world now is the time do you got family and you got friends who are not living the faith well are you praying for them not only are you praying for them but are you sacrificing for them are you fasting for them because if you don't who will there there comes a point in our conversations with people where you just kind of get the feeling they're just not open to the truth and listening to you to your words uh and and you have to be careful with family relationships not to completely ruin them by overly encouraging them into the faith so once you recognize that there's not much you can do except give a witness by living your faith and then praying and once again if you don't pray for your children who will if you don't pray for your spouse who will so some words of encouragement mhm sometimes I think like when I'm at the grocery store and I see all these people there I'm like who prays for these people you know like do they have anyone to pray for them so I'll like just say a quick prayer like Lord bless all these people at Costco yeah cuz they need you we all need you yeah now you have some additional thoughts on this too well you know I just think it's so interesting so these little children are shown a vision of hell like that must have really changed the trajectory of like their life in in many ways I mean they had a bunch of things happening in their life you know Visions from this angel now our lady now they see hell but I just think like you know if God showed us hell like what how how would that impact our life it would change it I'm I'm sure so I I would just hope that we would receive some of the Graces from just reading about these stories and getting these images like you were talking about from St Teresa of Avala like having these images of Hell in our mind so that it does change us um but then so we're actually doing we're currently doing a consecration to our lady for children and the reading that we did today was about Our Lady of Fatima and it was talking about how the children weren't afraid to die because they knew Mary and they knew her love and they knew her beauty and and I thought well that's beautiful you know like if you know your mother and you know that your mother's there why would you be afraid to die mhm there's a story that's I read recently I didn't talk to you about it about FR Franchesco and some after all the visions of Mary have happened people would often come to the children with questions and one of these ladies comes to Fran Franchesco and says what do you want to be when you grow up do you want want to be a carpenter and he says no I don't want to be a carpenter he's like well she says surely you want to be a priest then he's like no I don't want to be a priest and he's like well what do you want to be when you grew up and he says I just want to die and go to heaven and his father overheard that conversation and so we have it isn't that beautiful what what Simplicity of Faith so detached from this world detached from the vision of the future Lord whatever you want like do you have hopes you got dreams we all do and so often we're living for these temporary hopes and temporary dreams and it occupies everything we do in our day is occupied by fulfilling that future picture that we have for our own life where Francesco is like I just I just want to go to heaven I think that's the grace that our lady gives us when we give ourselves to her um something interesting happens after too uh this often not talked about after the apparitions happen and uh the two younger children Francesco and Jinta are told by the our lady that they will die soon that but Lucia has a different Mission and of course she lived a long life and was a religious sister but uh just s gets very sick and Lucia then goes to her and has this conversation jenta says look Lucia our lady came to see us and said that she is coming soon for Franchesco she asked me if I still wanted to convert more Sinners I said yes our lady wants me to go to two hospitals but it is not to cure me it is to suffer more for the love of God the conversion of Sinners and in reparation for the offenses committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary she told me that you would not go with me my mother will take me there and afterwards I am to be left there alone then on February 20th 1920 Jinta died at the age of nine alone fulfilling these words I I I find this so striking uh sad but also I guess beautiful this little girl suffered so much and she willingly that we have young children and they're I just feel like they're so I'm so far from this but our children she as a child she understood the importance of saving Souls through Redemptive suffering if our lady asked Jinta to undergo such suffering to save Souls can we not at least consider what is our asking us to offer and to give and to suffer for the sake of the Salvation of others um why would we think we are excluded from this call of Redemptive suffering if she calls young children all of us can offer something and typically we are not going to be called to die alone in a hospital bed you know that's not your call today what is it it's something sometimes just as simple as doing the duty of the moment with love out of for the Salvation of souls so it's making the meals uh sweeping the floor picking up the toys this is looking after a child that has a dirty diaper like these are some of the things that we do which can be offered in the domestic church for the Salvation of souls but let us not get through the whole day and get to the end of it and realize I offered nothing what a waste what a waste so that's our
